Yesudas to add glitz to college platinum fete

The students of Radha Lakshmi Vilasam (RLV) College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura, are anxious to seek the blessings of singer K J Yesudas who is coming to the college for the platinum jubilee celebrations on October 3.

A week-long festival is scheduled to be held  between September and October. The highlight of the festival will be a concert by Yesudas. The occasion will be graced by the presence of former teachers and students of the college, including those who had trained Yesudas.

Balakrishanan Potti, the ‘Veena’ teacher of Yesudas, feels that the presence of Yesudas will inspire students. “I can meet my great student after three years. He was a brilliant student. Though he has collected so many awards and honours from all over the world, he still maintains that he is a student of music. The new generation students must imbibe his down-to-earth qualities. His presence will be a blessing to the students,” he said.

The week-long festival will comprise all-India conferences on music and dance. There will be exhibitions of paintings and sculptures, scholar-in-residence programmes and lectures and concerts by eminent artists.

“We wish to host senior artists of international prominence from various parts of the country for a couple of days.  There will also be lectures by senior artists who will arrive under the visiting faculty scheme to give demonstrations and recitals, which will be documented,” said M Balasubramaniam, college principal.
