HYDERABAD: The lashing rain made life miserable for a large number of women and children who had come to take part in chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s programme in Golnaka on Sunday. Kiran Kumar Reddy was to inaugurate the Golnaka bridge and lay the foundation for Krishna Nagar bridge at Golnaka at 4.30 p.m. Hundreds of people gathered at the venue before 4 p.m, to listen to his announcements for development of their localities. But soon it started raining, forcing the gathering to run for shelter.People who wanted to leave the venue were forced to stay to welcome the chief minister. Women and the elderly used plastic chairs to cover themselves from the rain as there were no tents at the venue while corporators and other representatives stood under a specially erected dais. Reportedly, concerned authorities alerted the chief minister about the rain and requested him to the participate in the programme according to the forecast to avoid problems. The chief minister, with his entourage, arrived at around 6.30 p.m. “I will never forget the welcome you have given me in the heavy rains,” he said in his speech.He said the state government is taking all steps to develop Hyderabad as one of the most beautiful cities. The Old City is being re-developed at a cost of `2,000 crore, he said.Meanwhile, TDP corporators led by their floor leader in GHMC, Singireddy Srinivas Reddy staged a protest with black flags at Chaderghat crossroads against the government’s negligence towards the city’s development. They demanded release of funds and grants to the GHMC for taking up developmental activities.
