Woman poisons her two children to death, commits suicide

A 25-year-old woman killed her two children by poisoning them, before committing suicide in the same manner at Bhiloda taluka of North Gujarat's Sabarkantha district, the police said. "Kauti Bharwad (25), a resident of Kapreta village in Bhiloda taluka, first poisoned her two children by giving them pesticides mixed with a liquid before consuming it herself," a Bhiloda police official told PTI.

"She was mentally upset and afraid that she wouldn't get cured of tuberculosis (TB), which she was affected with," the police said. "Fearing that she would die of TB and there would be no one to look after her children, she poisoned them to death before taking the extreme step in the same manner," the police said.

The deceased children have been identified by police as three-year-old Mihir Bharwad and eight-month-old Payal Bharwad, even as the police is questioning her husband Vasa Bharwad.
