BANGALORE: Karnataka High Court on Monday asked the state government why not to close down Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and appoint an administrator as nothing is happening.
Expressing its displeasure for not doing anything even after filing an affidavit stating that the BBMP will find ways to prevent the damage to life and property in the high rise buildings during fire and other accidents, the division bench consisting of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice H G Ramesh observed: "Why can't you close the BBMP and appoint an administrator? The machinery has failed. We are very unhappy as nothing has happened. First, you file a letter and subsequently you file an affidavit and do nothing. You do not feel like doing anything."When Hampa Gowda, the director of the Fire Department, submitted that they received the letter from the BBMP to conduct a joint study to prevent fire accidents just a few days ago the bench observed: "How many years will it take for the coordination to take place? If you don't give us good suggestions to prevent fire, we will take action against you."
