London: Oasis have taken the top two places in a poll to find the best British album of the last 50 years, beating classics by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd.
The Manchester band's debut album Definitely Maybe topped the survey for Q magazine and HMV, while their 1995 follow-up (What's The Story) Morning Glory? came second.
The Beatles took five top 50 places with Revolver, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Rubber Soul, Abbey Roadand The White Album.
The Rolling Stones crept into the chart with Exile on Main Street (48) and Let It Bleed (50). Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, one of the best-selling albums of all time, was ninth.
Q's Editor Paul Rees said: "It's clear that, having polled three times more votes than any other act, Oasis are undoubtedly the nation's most-loved band."
