The result of the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test or NEET exam is out. Rupayan Mandal, a student at Nawab Bahadur’s Institution in Murshidabad, West Bengal, who achieved the All India rank 1 in the NEET UG 2024, expressed that the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the dedication and hardships faced by doctors, motivating him to join the profession and prepare for the NEET. Seeing the plight of people during the pandemic, he decided to become a doctor at the age of eighteen. After scoring exceptionally well, Rupayan now hopes to study at AIIMS Delhi.
Elated by his results, Rupayan shared, “Hard work and consistency have helped me succeed in the exam. I began preparing for NEET UG in class IX, starting with online tuition classes and later moving to physical classes.” He noted that better preparation in Physics played a crucial role in his success in the NEET exam.
For Rupayan, his grandmother’s illness was a significant factor that pushed him towards understanding medicine and sparked his curiosity. This experience inspired him to prepare for NEET and pursue a career in medical science.
This year, there have been 67 candidates who shared the AIR 1 by scoring 720 out of 720, Rupayan being one of them. As it is the first time that something like this has occurred, it has led to controversies, doubts and questions about the transparency of the exam. However, Rupayan thinks that the reason is because students have cracked the exam pattern and mastered the technique. He also believes that easy access to online study material nowadays also has an impact on the preparation of students.
Both of Rupayan’s parents are teachers. His father is a Physics teacher who helped him master the subject since Class 9 while his mother, a Bengali teacher, imbibed into him the habit of reading.
