Weather Updates Today: Rains Lash Parts of Gurugram, Moderate Rainfall Likely in Other Parts of Delhi-NCR Over Next Few Hours
The IMD has issued a red alert in Madhya Maharashtra from August 1-3, East Madhya Pradesh on August 2 and 3, Konkan & Goa, West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Region on August 3.

Moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of Gurugram while there was an overcast in other parts of Delhi NCR on Friday afternoon. Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied with moderate thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places of Delhi ( Bawana), Sonipat, Kharkhoda (Haryana).

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places of Delhi (Narela, Kanjhawala), NCR (Bahadurgarh) Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Narwana, Barwala, Jind, Gohana, Gannaur, Hansi, Siwani, Meham, Rohtak, Bhiwani (Haryana) Baraut (UP).

Heavy rains are likely in Gangetic West Bengal, Tripura and parts of Odisha on Friday under the influence of a low pressure area having been formed over West Bengal.

The impact of this cyclonic circulation is also likely to bring heavy rains in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa and Gujarat over the next 24-48 hours. The IMD has issued a red alert in Madhya Maharashtra from August 1-3, East Madhya Pradesh on August 2 and 3, Konkan & Goa, West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Region on August 3.

West Bengal Weather Update

According to Skymet Weather, intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers with gusty winds of about (20-30 kmph) will occur at many places of Bankura, Barddhaman, Birbhum, Hooghly, Howrah, Kolkata, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, North Twenty-Four Parganas, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Medinipur, Puruliya and South Twenty-Four Parganas over the districts of West Bengal during the next 3-5 hours.

Delhi, Himachal, Uttarakhand Weather Update

There were cloudy skies on Friday and Delhi-NCR as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh on Friday while very heavy rains have been predicted for parts of Uttarakhand. Parts of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand are on an orange alert with the possibility of very heavy rains.

Six people, including two children, died and three were injured in rain-related incidents in the national capital in Wednesday evening’s intense spell of downpour. These deaths were attributed to electrocution, waterlogging and building collapse.

In view of the heavy rainfall, the Delhi government directed all schools to remain shut in the city on Thursday. Multiple areas, including Lutyen’s Delhi, Kashmere Gate, and Rajinder Nagar, were also inundated due to the rainfall.

Visuals from South Delhi’s Qutub Minar area showed vehicles navigating through waterlogged roads as traffic police personnel worked to manage the flow of traffic.

IMD Issues Orange Alert For Uttarakhand

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand for August 2 and 3, forecasting isolated instances of very heavy rainfall.

The Met Department has also forecast intense rain spells over Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Regions from August 2 to August 5. “Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely over West Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat Region on 03rd August,” stated IMD.

Jharkhand Weather Update

Skymet Weather has predicted a few spells of moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers with gusty winds of about (30-40 kmph) at many places with moderate lightning at a few places of Bokaro, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Garhwa, Godda, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Jamtara, Khunti, Kodarma, Latehar, Lohardaga, Pakur, Palamu, Pashchimi Singhbhum, Purbi Singhbhum, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Artikel-Kharsawan and Simdega over the districts of Jharkhand during the next 3-4 hours.

Weather Conditions in Northern States

Five people were killed and about 50 went missing following several incidents of cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh where heavy rainfall washed away many houses, bridges and roads.

The state emergency operation centre said the cloudbursts took place in Nirmand, Sainj and Malana areas in Kullu, Padhar in Mandi and Rampur in Shimla districts.

The local meteorological office issued a “red alert” predicting heavy to extremely heavy rains along with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in three districts of Kangra, Kullu and Mandi on Thursday.

An incident of cloudburst was reported in the Samej Khad area in the Rampur Region of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. Following the calamity, NDRF personnel and district administration were present at the spot and conducted a rescue operation.

A release by the weather department also stated that light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand during the week.

Additional Chief Secretary of Disaster Management at Himachal Pradesh, Omkar Sharma on Thursday said, “Last evening, a 36-hour alert was issued by the IMD, and from midnight, heavy rain started in about seven to eight districts across Himachal Pradesh. The first report of a cloudburst came from Kullu district, where several houses and six shops were swept away, bridges were damaged, and seven people went missing. The second cloudburst report came from Mandi district, where one dead body has been found, nine people are missing, and three to four houses have been washed out… Rescue operation is underway.”
