The Navi Mumbai International Airport successfully conducted the trial landing of an aircraft with the touchdown of an Airbus C295 plane on Friday.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) transport carrier C295 landed at the Southern runway 26 of the airport at 12.14 pm, according to the airport operator. Water canon salute was accorded to the aircraft.
The airport, being developed by the Adani Group, is expected to start commercial operations early next year.

Chief minister Eknath Shinde in a post on X said: “…Indian Air Force’s C-295 aircraft successfully landed at Navi Mumbai airport and was given a ‘water salute’ as soon as it landed on the runway. After that, the ‘Sukhoi-30’ aircraft was also successfully fly-passed."

GREEN AIRPORT WITH LOTUS DESIGN
- The airport is located in Ulwe in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
- The Navi Mumbai airport construction project planning started in 1990. It later picked up speed in the 2000s.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the project’s foundation stone in February 2018.

DOMESTIC FLIGHTS FROM MARCH 2025, BULLET TRAIN CONNECTIVITY WITH METRO
Domestic flights will be able to fly from this airport from March 2025 and international flights likely from June 2025.
Two runways will be constructed at this airport and it will be possible to park 350 planes at the same time at four terminals. This airport will also have bullet train connectivity with Metro.
Even though the airport has four terminal buildings, passengers can reach their flight no matter which terminal they go to.
ACCESSIBILE BY ROAD, METRO, RAILWAYS, MTHL
The airport is 10 minutes away from Panvel and will be easily accessible via road, metro rail, and suburban railways. The airport connects the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 and the Mumbai metro line 8, also called Gold line.
Also, the airport will be the starting point of the Mumbai-Hyderabad high-speed rail corridor.
The Sewri Nhava Sheva Trans-Harbor Sea Link or MTHL will also provide easy access to the airport.
