Want to be a CA? Work 14 hrs a day

HYDERABAD: Topping the Chartered Accountants’ final exam is no mean feat. A resident of Hyderabad, 20- year-old Roohi Aggarwal, has worked hard for the distinction. “I knew that I will be able to achieve a good percentage but did not expect that I will score the highest in the country!” exclaims Roohi.But it definitely isn’t as easy as she put it.Roohi had slogged for 14 hours a day to come out of it with flying colours.“I used to take a break to listen to music,” she recalls but is quick to add that the breaks were never long enough to distract her.After she cleared the Common Proficiency Test in May 2008 from Delhi, Roohi’s family moved to Hyderabad.She completed B.Com through distance education mode at the Osmania University, while simultaneously doing her articleship at Messrs Tukaram and Company.“In May 2010 I completed my Professional Competence Course (PCC) and went to different tutors for training in subjects such as financial management, law and auditing in the morning, followed by articleship during the day,” explains Roohi.The girl, who scored 619 marks in the final examination, believes that it is important to have an objective and be motivated to pursue it.“Time management is extremely important for the CA examinations.There is only a day’s gap between the subjects and it is essential to have completed the syllabus and revised it over a period of 3 to 4 months,” she stresses.Giving equal weightage to all the subjects has been the success mantra for Roohi.“I completed the syllabus and coaching and put in 3 to 4 months of extensive revision prior to the exam.It varies from person to person, depending on their levels of understanding,” opines the future- finance manager whose dream-job is to be a banker or work for a stock-trading firm.“My first preference will be Hyderabad for a job but if there’s a better opportunity in Delhi or Bangalore, I will not shy away from taking it up,” admits Roohi.Having set the bar high for her younger brother who is also a CA-aspirant, Roohi has made her parents proud.Her father, Rakesh Aggarwal is a businessman and mother Raksha is a homemaker.“My parents are extremely happy with my performance and there is a party on the cards in a few day’s time,” adds the youngster.Sure enough, there is every reason to party.
