BANGALORE: Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), in association with the Shruth and Smith Foundation, organised a day-long convention for engineering students of affiliated colleges in Bangalore. The event featured two sessions and was attended by close to 5,000 engineering students. Young Tech India 2011 was held this year at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium with the purpose of bringing students in contact with eminent personalities from the industry.Speaking at the inauguration former chairman of ISRO Dr U R Rao recounted his experiences with ‘Aryabhatta’ which was India’s first satellite programme. He stressed the importance of youth power by pointing out that contrary to fields like literature and art in which one matures with age, scientific breakthroughs are usually achieved by people in the age group of 20-25 who are unfettered by a fixed mindset. “Dare to dream, do not go after anything just because it is fashionable, instead work in the field that you like,” Dr Rao said. The first session was titled ‘Inspiring Young Minds’ and featured panelists like Maj Gen D N Khurana, Asian Association of Management Organisations, Sanjay Singh, Tata Sons and Shakti Singh, IAS. The second session was addressed by academician Gururaj Karajagi and Rajnish Prasad of SAPLabs.
