PUDUCHERRY: The Congress on Sunday accused the Labour Department of being ‘lethargic,’ alleging that it remained inactive despite the death of five workers over the past 15 days here.A worker, Chandrasekaran, drowned while working in the septic tank of the Anglo French Textiles factory on Saturday, Congress media spokesperson A V Veeraragavan said in a release here. Similarly, a few days ago, four workers were killed after a gas tank exploded in a closed factory in Thiruvandarkoil when they were trying to remove the pipes attached to it,he added.Veeraragavan said that neither the Chief Minister nor the Labour Minister had bothered to visit the factory after the accident, adding that this revealed the ‘anti-worker’ stand of the UT government.Veeraraghavan said his party had submitted memorandums to Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Minister V Narayanasamy and the Central Labour Commissioner over the inaction of the Ranagasamy-led government in this regard.
