New Delhi: Actress Malaika Arora Khan doesn't mince words. Irrespective of the bond Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan share, and the manner in which it is perceived by their detractors, Malaika Arora Khan quite openly refers to King Khan as not just an actor, but one of the superstars of India.
Similarly, she doesn't think it is fair for her to speak on what's right and wrong for Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty, who have been dragged into the IPL spot-fixing controversy.
On her recent visit to Delhi, the style maven spoke to IBNLive about Jiah Khan's demise, Salman Khan and a lot more. Excerpts:
The untimely death of Jiah Khan, which left everyone shocked, draws one's attention to the darker side of fame. Doesn't the pressure of making it big, staying noticed increases by the day in the showbiz industry?
Work pressure exists everywhere so why just blame the film business? Whether it is a nine-to-five job or the teaching profession, work pressure is a part and parcel of life. It is sad, shocking and unfortunate to know about what happened to Jiah Khan. But I believe, to think why she must have taken that step or what went wrong is just a personal matter. What she went through, nobody would ever know. I think the media should be careful and not callous about such issues. One has to keep in mind that these are very sensitive issues because families are involved, and people are still grieving. Each time something like this happens, the media airs one's dirty linen in public, points fingers at celebrities and make accusations, which is so very wrong. There should be some restraint.
As reports suggest, Arbaaz Khan had recently expressed his desire to work with Shah Rukh Khan...
I don't think he said that. He was just asked about it, and his comment was taken out of context. The media asked him if there is a chance of Arbaaz and Shah Rukh Khan working together. Shah Rukh Khan is not just one of the actors, but he is one of the superstars of our country. So Arbaaz was just questioned if ever there will be an opportunity for them to work together. I don't think there is too much to read into this.
Each time a celebrity's name is dragged into controversies, the Bollywood fraternity comes out in full support of him/her. Stars take to social media to share opinions and extend support, but celebrities failed to do anything similar for Raj Kundra-Shilpa Shetty caught in match-fixing controversy...
I'm really not aware of this because I'm not on Twitter. But I know they are a wonderful couple. I know them on a personal level. Their case is now sub judice. So it is unfair for me to speak on what is right and wrong for Raj and Shilpa Shetty. It is an unfortunate turn of events for them.
Pulkit Samrat had recently said in an interview that he can be referred to as Salman Khan's brother-in-law. Don't you think celebrities - especially young actors - try hard to cash in on Salman Khan's stardom by forging alliances with him? Is it done to attain security and stability in career?
We are genuinely fond of Pulkit Samrat. He is someone I don't know very well, but I have seen him around. And yes, he is a dear friend of Salman Khan. I don't think young actors try to forge bond with Salman intentionally. Instead, I believe, they are friends with him. In terms of a layperson, tell me who doesn't want to be close to a star? But I think friends are friends. And if there are those who try to make a quick association with the star, that's a different issue. At the end of the day, stars know who they want and don't in their lives. It just boils down to personal choice.
