CHENNAI: At a time when youngsters are force-fed morals and are taught about some of the pressing issues of society through mediums that they don’t necessarily like or understand, Unclear Energy – A Justice Rocks Concert, was a welcome change.Using satire and music, Justice Rocks was a platform where youngsters were taught that they can have fun and enjoy life, but without selling themselves to the money-chasing corporate giants. On Thursday, at the Justice Rocks concert unsponsored by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and the Nuclear Industry (The organisers prefer to call it unsponsored because unlike in sponsored concerts where all the performers sing praises of the sponsors, here, the performers have the liberty to even lash out at the sponsors) at Spaces, Besant Nagar, Jhanu, Sidharth Hande (of Transparent Chennai fame), Vedanth Bharadwaj, Totem and High Heels and a Shotgun doled out some inspirational music on various issues, including the energy crisis situation that the country is facing. The entire evening provided food for thought for the young audience not only in the form of music, but also small skits on several concerns including the one on saving the beaches. Theatre for Rights, Reclaim Our Beaches and The Marriage Party were some of the skits on stage. Through the skits, the actors touched upon subjects on corrupt politics, protests, national security, among others, with ample dosages of wit and humour. By the end of the evening, however ignorant of current affairs and the prevailing situation in the nation, the teenagers walked away with a fair amount of intellectual nourishment.
