COIMBATORE: In two tales of separation involving two different orphanages in Coimbatore, one had a happy ending on Monday with a 31-year-old woman reuniting with her parents, while a 26-year-old man, who was given on adoption 18 years ago to a couple in Canada, is still searching for his biological mother. The woman, Nirmala, suffering from bouts of memory lapses had left her home four years ago and was roaming the streets. She was rescued by a social worker and admitted to Sri Anbalaya orphanage, where she could not recall anything about her past. One day, while participating in a painting competition she wrote ‘Door No 36, Nehru Nagar’, which gave a lead to the social workers trying to locate her parents, who were ultimately traced to Vilankurichi.Alexander, however, is not lucky as his one-month search has not taken him to his mother, who had given him to the ‘Families For Children’ orphanage in Podanur.Though the couple who adopted Alexander took care of him well, he wants to meet his mother and ask what prompted her to give him away. The orphanage records say that his mother ‘Mani’ was unmarried and that his parents were against her bringing up the child as a single mother. But the address given by the woman is fake and Alexander has been trying to locate his mother for the past one month. He hopes to find her before he leaves for Canada, where he works as a chef in a restaurant, upon the expiry of his tourist visa. In the meantime, he is learning Tamil.
