Two more booked under Goodas Act

MADURAI/TIRUVARUR: The total number of DMK men arrested under the Goondas Act rose to three with the detention of V K Gurusamy, the East Zone Chairman of Madurai Corporation, here on Friday.Police sources said Gurusamy was arrested on land grab charges on July 31.Selvaraj of Anna Nagar, the complainant, charged that Gurusamy and his soninlaw M S Pandi had ousted the tenants in houses built on seven cents and had illegally rented out the building to their clients. The duo had been collecting rent for the victim's property.Based on the complaint received in this connection, a case was registered by the Central Crime Branch on July 29. The arrested duo were lodged in the Central Prison in Palayamkottai.Gurusamy had been indulging in threatening the public and had been usurping property.Meanwhile, DMK Tiruvarur District Secretary Poondi Kalaivanan was also booked under the Goondas Act. Warrant was served to Kalaivanan at the Palayamkottai jail, where he has been lodged on charges of ransacking a shop at Thiruthuraipoondi and for issuing death threat to its owner. Collector S Muniyanathan and Superintendent of Police Xavier Dhanraj ordered the detention of Kalaivanan under the Goondas Act as there were several criminal cases pending against him.
