Two mishaps on NH 48 claim 9 lives

HASSAN: Five persons of the same family were killed on the spot in a head on collision between a private bus and a car on Bangalore- Mangalore NH 48 near Kenchattahalli in Hassan taluk in the wee hours of Monday. Later, one of the two injured succumbed in a hospital in Hassan.The deceased have been identified as Vasim (25), Shabanam (17), Ishrath (26), Sumeed (12) and Rehman (27). Imran and Shaukat, the two injured, had been admitted to a government hospital in Hassan. However, in the late evening, Imran succumbed to the injuries.Sources said the accident occurred when the driver of the car lost control over the vehicle while trying to overtake another vehicle. The car hit the private bus coming from the opposite side.All the dead were occupants of the car and residents of Chikmagalore. The incident occurred when they were returning to Chikmagalore from Bangalore.Sources informed that the police took one hour to remove the dead bodies from the wreckage.
