At least seven newborns died in a massive fire that broke out at a children’s hospital in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi late Saturday
There has been an uptick in incidents of fire breaking out in residential and commercial buildings, and factories leading to multiple deaths in the country in recent times.
In a span of two days around 30 people were killed in two separate fire tragedies – Rajkot and Delhi- in India.

- At least seven newborns died in a massive fire that broke out at a children’s hospital in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi late Saturday. The owner of the baby care centre, who was absconding since Saturday night, was apprehended by Delhi Police on Sunday.
- At least 27 people, including 12 children, were killed after a massive fire broke out at a gaming zone in Gujarat’s Rajkot city on Saturday evening. The manager of the TRP game zone Nitin Jain and one of the partners in the facility Yuvraj Singh Solanki were arrested by the police on Sunday.
- Ten people were killed and over 60 others were injured after a major fire erupted, following a boiler explosion at a chemical factory in Maharashtra’s Thane district on May 23.
- On April 2, two sisters were killed after a fire broke out at their house in Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area. The sisters, aged 14 and 12, got trapped in the bathroom of their home after the fire broke out in one of the rooms.
- On March 14, a massive fire broke out in a residential building in the Shastri Nagar area of Delhi’s Shahdara leaving two children and a married couple dead due to suffocation.
- At least 11 people were killed and four injured after a deadly fire broke out in a paint factory in outer Delhi’s Alipur area on February 15. The charred bodies of the 11 victims were recovered from the factory, located in Alipur’s Dayalpur market.

- In December last year, a massive fire broke out at a hand glove manufacturing company in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar leaving six people dead. The blaze occurred at around 2:15 am on December 31, 2023, at the factory located in Waluj MIDC area.
- On October 19, 2023, a massive fire broke out at a multi-storied building in the posh Koramangala area of Bengaluru. The fire apparently broke out at around noon in the ‘Mud Pipe Cafe’ where several LPG cylinders had been stored.
