New Delhi: In a bizarre discovery, commandos who gunned down a terrorist in the Mumbai encounter last week found that he had just a thumb and fore finger in his right hand.
A picture released by the Mumbai Police shows the gunman had an unusual right hand, with just the two fingers needed to pull the trigger
The terrorist was shot dead by NSG commandos last Friday on the 18th floor of the Oberoi Trident Hotel that had been held under siege by terrorists.
It was only after his body was recovered that the commandos noticed the missing fingers.
Meanwhile, investigators are looking at a possible UP link to the Mumbai terror attacks. The Mumbai crime branch is seeking custody of suspected LeT operative Fahim Ansari, who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police in February this year.
Ansari's interrogation report reveals that he had allegedly carried out a recce of locations in the city including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and the Gateway of India.
He had earlier told investigators that he was handpicked from Dubai in 2006 and sent to Pakistan illegally via Muscat in 2007.
He had attended training in the same camps as 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab.
He was shown the map of Mumbai on GoogleEarth.com, and prominent places like the police headquarters, Taj Mahal Hotel, BSE, Kalina Army gate, INS Hamla and others were marked out and shown to him as well.
He was also tasked with finding out the possibility of conducting an air strike from a building.
He has confessed that according to the instructions given to him by Kahafa, his instructor, he had visited important locations in south Mumbai and marked it in a map.
He took pictures and videos and also drew diagrams of the roads and buildings. Ansari was earlier questioned by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in February.
The police will seek his custody to probe further into the conspiracy of 26/11 attack, his links with Ajmal Kasab and his role in organising logistics for the terror module.
