HYDERABAD: After the hearing on the petition filed by some Telugu medium candidates, the Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal has issued interim stay orders on the Group-I interviews, which were scheduled to be held from January 4 to 10.The tribunal has asked the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to file a counter to the issues raised by the candidates in their petition before January 20.It felt that the APPSC’s replies to the issues raised by the Telugu medium candidates were not satisfactory. Speaking to Express on Friday, P Nagesh Nayak, one of the petitioners, said they raised four issues. They included translation errors, erroneous valuation and irregularities that took place at a Group-I main examination centre in Tirupati.Nayak contended that the translation blunders committed by the APPSC cost them 310 marks out of the total 750 (five papers). The petitioners furnished the documentary evidence to the tribunal in the form of questions given in English and their Telugu translation. V Saidi Reddy, another Telugu medium student, said an invigilator at an exam centre in Tirupati caught 10 to 15 candidates while they were writing answers to some questions even before the commencement of the exam.Surprisingly, the questions appeared in the exam, which indicated the leak of question paper. But the APPSC allowed all these candidates to write the examination without taking any action against them, Reddy added. The candidates said the APPSC got the answer scripts of Telugu and English medium students valued by English professors. The APPSC said experts in respective fields valued the answer scripts. After the tribunal’s interim stay order, APPSC chairperson Rachel Chatterjee is planning to hold a meeting with all members and secretary to discuss their next move. The meeting is likely to discuss various options, including moving the High Court challenging the stay of the tribunal. Meanwhile, Telugu medium candidates are demanding conduct of the Group-I main exam afresh. Demanding re-conduct of the main exam, SV Venugopal, another petitioner, said his rigorous preparation for three years for the exam had gone waste due to the errors committed by the APPSC. Hence, the APPSC should reconduct the main exam to do justice to Telugu medium candidates, he said. The APPSC issued a notification in 2008 and a supplementary notification in 2009 for a total of 210 Group-I posts in various government departments. The preliminary exam was held on September 5.It was conducted again on October 25 for the benefit of candidates who could not attend the exam held on September 5 due to Telangana agitation.Despite Sakala Janula Samme of the TJAC, the APPSC conducted the Group-I main from September 25 to October 3.The results of Group-I main were announced on December 17.
