Top Maoist leader surrenders in Orissa

New Delhi: Maoist leader Suresh Sundi surrendered to police in Keonjhar in Orissa on Thursday.

Suresh headed CPI(Maoist) operations in Mayurbhanj district of Orissa.

"We found that the tribals are being caught and jailed. Nothing good has happened to them. We saw nothing can be achieved through violence. So, I decided to come to mainstream to live happily," said Sundi after his surrender.

He had joined the Maoists in 2007 and underwent arms training. He was involved in the killing of a forest officer, torching of religious place and many explosions targeting security forces..

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Police seized a huge consignment of explosives, believed to be enough to blow up an entire city following the arrest of a Maoist leader and an arms supplier along the Bokaro-Hazaribagh border in Jharkhand.

A team of Bokaro police and Central Reserve Police Personnel recovered 1,250 kgs of Ammonium Nitrate, 450 live cartridges, 235 kg wire, two rifles, two grenades, and 50 electric detonators on Wednesday.

Two suspected Maoists were also arrested along with the xplosives. The two men identified as Bhuwaneshwar Mahto and Qutubuddin are being questioned.

The security forces also recovered a water storage tank, a bike, Rs 4 lakh in cash and Maoist literature at the place where the duo was arrested.
