CHENNAI: In a significant step that could end the decade-old Tirupur dyeing units issue, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday ordered disbursal of Rs127.4 crore as interest-free loan to 15 Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in and around the hosiery town in order to modernise them as well as to ensure Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) in accordance with the verdicts of the Supreme Court and Madras HC.The CM has already announced that Rs 200 crore will be disbursed for modernising the CETPs as each of the plant would need Rs 10 crore for the purpose. She has now granted Rs 127.4 crore in the first phase. The CETPs which would get the interest-free loans are those at Sirupooluvapatti,  Murugampalayam, Veerapandi, Angeripalayam, Chinnakarai and  Estern (Rs 10 crore each),  Andipalayam and Kallikadu  (Rs 8 crore each , Kasipalayam (Rs 7.96 cr), Karaipudur (Rs 9.1 cr), Mangalam (Rs 9.55 cr), Mannarai (Rs 9.32 cr), Park (Rs 6.73 cr), Periyapalayam (Rs 5.1 cr) and  Vettuvapalayam (Rs 3.73 cr).The Noyyal River Ayacutdars Protection Association filed a petition in the Madras HC stating that the effluents from the 754 dyeing units in Tirupur flow into the river and mix with water for irrigation in Orathupalayam dam affecting crops. The HC in 1998 directed that the treatment plants should be established to avoid pollution of Noyyal water.
