Schools and colleges were shut. Shops and Commercial establishments were closed, public transport services got a hit. All thanks to the 48-hour bandh. While students were rejoicing the unexpected two day vacation, some others were not pleased with the idea. Sakina Hamza, a third year student says, “I am going to hibernate! Will spend the two days watching a few movies and maybe read something because I haven’t done that in a long time.” She is not the only one who is happy with the break. Harsha Peddi, a graduate, says , “I am going to stay home, watch a couple of movies and probably hang out at a gaming centre close to my place --- so I can walk and not depend on any kind of transport,” says Harsha. Entrepreneur Subramanyam Satya opines that this is the right time for people to spend some quality time with their friends and family. “Even though such bandhs disrupt daily routine and cause various problems, I think that we should take it in a positive way and make the best out of the opportunity. This will be an ideal time to call friends over or spend time with family,” expresses Satya. While all these people want to make the best out of the given circumstance and have found alternatives to kill time, Anusha Ramesh is of a different opinion. “I am so annoyed with these bandhs. And, the worst thing is that my boss doesn’t declare a holiday. My colleagues who have their vehicle can manage to reach office, but people like me have to stay home and work. Despite me working from home, the pay will get cut anyway,” moans Anusha, a marketing coordinator. Susee R, a student whose exam has been postponed due to this unexpected bandh is upset. She says, “It’s pathetic! The bandh does not have any fruitful result and has hampered the NTR University exams. Our exams have been postponed for ten days now. This bandh is taking us nowhere and all the mishap cannot be retrieved in a day. I think that the university should acknowledge this and conduct exms as per norms with no further changes.”
