The festival of Rath Yatra was held recently with the ‘Ulta Rath’ ceremony being held on July 16. On the occasion of Rath Yatra, many across the state of West Bengal and Odisha celebrate the festival dedicated to Lord Jagannath in their way. A school in South Bengal celebrated the occasion with a Mid-Day Meal program for the students. The air was filled with the enticing aroma of food, creating a festive atmosphere that captivated people. In conjunction with Rath Yatra, the government organised a special event known as ‘Tithi Bhojan’ at Sabita Bhakta Smriti Primary School, located under Rajapur Police Station, Howrah district, Block 2, by government directives.

The primary school of the block was selected to host this auspicious occasion. The Tithi Bhojan was a feast arranged specifically for the students, featuring a delightful array of dishes. The mid-day meal menu included sautéed cabbage, potato posto (poppy seeds), mung dal, chicken curry, chutney and papad, complemented by treats like jalebis and jackfruit.

Education Supervisor Dhananjay Khara graced the event with his presence, emphasising the importance of such cultural and educational gatherings in Block 2, Uluberia. The principal, along with all the teachers and parents, actively supported and participated in making the day a success. Principal Swapan Kumar Chattel expressed his satisfaction, stating, ‘We always strive to provide a wholesome experience, incorporating elements of Rath Yatra, along with the culinary delights of jalebi and jackfruit, as per government guidelines.'”

Tithi Bhojan refers to a traditional Hindu practice where a meal is prepared and served in memory of a departed loved one according to the Hindu lunar calendar. The Tithi Bhojan scheme, along with guidelines for all states to follow, was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2017. The program aims to encourage more community involvement and foster engagement from religious and charitable organisations.
