People in rural areas have been engaged in cattle rearing and taking care of them for a long time. Gradually, those in urban areas are also interested in the same. The urban population are expanding their knowledge regarding cattle rearing to ensure they can raise livestock in urban areas and give them the necessary nutrients in their feed to support their growth.
Animal feed is an important aspect of cattle rearing, as timely and nutritious food would result in healthy cattle. Cattle rearers are often conflicted about whether their feed is nutritious enough and made from natural ingredients. Due to awareness now, they prefer to buy food that is made from natural ingredients as it will be nutritious, nourishing and healthy for them.
To cater to this demand, a company is making natural ingredient-based cattle feed in Dindigul city of Tamil Nadu. This company is run by Annapoorani which is near Palani in the Dindigul area. She holds an MBA degree in Human Resources and has previously worked in an IT company. However, it was her compassion for domestic animals like goats, cows and chickens that she began making animal feed out of natural ingredients.
Annapoorani quit her well-paying IT job and came back to her hometown to follow her passion. She began manufacturing animal feed and now, it has been five years that she has been in this business. The feed is in demand from nearby villages, neighbouring states and even abroad.
In an interview with Local18, she said that her company manufactures seven types of feed– mixed feed, stick feed, wheat bran, cottonseed, CFC plus, corn and chicken feed. These are “exported to various parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and even Malaysia.” She claimed that the animal feed does not contain any chemicals like urea and instead ingredients are natural.
The mixed feed includes flour of corn, sorghum flour and pulses like pigeon pea and black gram. For silage, she uses tapioca, soybean and wheat bran. Such natural ingredients are excellent for the health of the cattle as these are rich in fibre.
When Annapoorani started the business, she claimed that she faced various challenges including sourcing raw materials and offering delivery benefits to customers. Gradually, with experience, they were able to improvise their techniques and build a large customer base.
