There are several theatres around us that are old but loved by the local people. People in large numbers visit these theatres everyday. Today we will talk about one such theatre that is very famous. It is located in the state of Kerala. The name of the theatre we are talking about here is ARS Theatre and Auditorium. It is located in the village of Kallara, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It was once a vibrant hub where hundreds of people used to visit the place to watch films everyday. This old cinema is reportedly owned by actress Radha. Sitting on mats and cheering for the stars on the silver screen, the experience of watching films in such traditional halls is something that the present generation might not fully understand. The locals of the area mentioned that this film theatre is filled with nostalgia.
Earlier, people from the neighbouring villages also used to visit the theatre to enjoy films. According to reports, Radha built this theatre to express her love for Indian films. It is still maintained well till date, but the space is now used as a wedding hall. Despite this, the memories of the old film theatre still linger vividly in the minds of many people.
According to a report by Local 18, the most successful Malayalam film to run in this theatre was Chithram, which was released in 1988. Under the direction of Priyadarshan, the film starred Mohanlal, Nedumudi Venu and Renjini. IV Sasi’s Neelagiri starring Mammootty, Madhoo and Sunitha also had a significant run of 50 days. Many film personalities who come from this village have spoken about this theatre and the time they have spent in this theatre. While many neighbouring theatres in the area have been demolished, this theatre still stands tall.
The owner of the theatre, Radha, is a well-known face in the Indian film industry. She dominated the industry in the 1980s. The actress’ last film was Intezaar: Koi Aane Ko Hai which was released in 2021.
