Raisen (Madhya Pradesh): A 35-year-old tribal woman?s hand was chopped off with an axe by two Thakurs against whom she had lodged a rape complaint on April 9 this year.
The Thakurs also set her shanty on fire after she refused to take back the rape case.
Kamla of village Silvani has been admitted at the Hamidia hospital in Bhopal.
"They ransacked my house after I refused to withdraw my complaint and also scared away my husband and then chopped my hand with an axe," Kamla Bai said.
The police instead of arresting the Thakurs initially maintained that the woman had registered a false complaint against them.
But as the matter was reported to officials at the Police Head Quarters in Bhopal, the case was then reluctantly registered.
"The police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Atrocities against SC STs Act and the matter is under investigation," UC Sharangi, DIG, Raisen Range, said.
Though the police now maintains that a massive hunt has been launched to nab the two absconding Thakurs, the victim perhaps could have been saved of her present fate had the police dealt with the accused firmly when the rape case was initially registered against them.
