Terror hits tourism industry, bookings cancelled
ITC grand central, Four Seasons and hotel Leela say cancellations are still pouring.

Mumbai: All major hotels in Mumbai are experiencing a drop in footfalls post the terror attack. Though most hotels are shy to quantify the decline, they confirm seeing heavy cancellations in the last 4 days especially by international travelers.

“Volumes are down 30-40 per cent across India in Last 5 Days, 50 per cent In Mumbai, we will see big drop in volumes,” says CEO, ITC Hotels, Nakul Anand.

Hotels like ITC grand central, Four Seasons and hotel Leela say cancellations are still pouring in and mostly by the foreign nationals. Hotel Leela says the figure might go up in the next 72 hours.

Infact, ITC grand central says even the restaurant business for hotels has taken a significant hit. Industry experts say at a time when corporate travel has been cut down, tourism industry is headed for rough weather.

"Corporate travel is already down, so this is going to be a very tough next eight to nine months," says Non-Exec Chmn, Thomas Cook India, Udayan Bose.

"We are certainly running for a downturn and I think there will be an impact on Mumbai city," says Chmn & MD, AFL, Cyrus Guzder.

Hotels feel the New Year week will add to the grim outlook and the month of December may see a drop of 10-15 per cent in occupancy.
