JHARSUGUDA: Tension gripped Gandhi square on Monday evening after coal transporters tried to force their vehicles inside the town on Monday.Earlier, hundreds of people led by Brajrajnagar MLA Anup Sai staged a road blockade at Gandhi square demanding restriction on plying of heavy vehicles inside Brajrajnagar town and a stop to overloading of coal. When there was no sign of the blockade being called off, impatient transporters tried to forcibly ply their trucks and this flared up the situation. This led to a confrontation between the agitators and the coal transporters following which, the police had to resort to mild lathi-charge to restore normalcy.Jharsuguda SP Dayal Gangwar, ADM Rabindra Mishra and Sub-Collector Pradeep Barik rushed to the spot. Later, it was decided that a tripartite meeting would be held on November 11 to resolve the issue which would be attended by Sai, transporters and the district officials.
