THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tension prevailed at Nedumangad police station after a group of people, learnt to be CPM activists, laid siege to the police station. The protestors alleged that the police had arrested a group of DYFI activists without any reason. According to police, the alertness shown by the police in the wake of the recent murder of two persons, including a notorious goonda, within the station limits had sparked the tension. Circle Inspector Suresh of Nedumangad station, while leading the night patrolling party, came across a group of youths sitting inside a makeshift tent beside the road at Taratta near Aramkal, where the murders took place. On interrogation, the youths said they were DYFI activists and had come there to write graffiti of their party on the walls there. On finding out that they did not carry any painting materials with them, the Circle Inspector grew suspicious and took them into custody, following which the DYFI and CPM activists in the area surrounded the police station. The issue was finally resolved after Nedumangad DySP Mohammed Shafi and MLA Koliyakode Krishnan Nair arrived at the spot and held talks.
