BANGALORE:  The telemedicine facility which was recently launched by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda at Beggars' Colony on  Magadi Road will soon be extended to other centres across the state. The Central Relief Committee under Social Welfare Department is gearing up to link all the 13 beggars centres across the state to the Victoria and Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital. The telemedicine in rural areas will now offer consultancy and diagnose in specialties like general medicine, dermatologist, psychiatrist,  cardiology, nephrology and urology to the inmates in these centres. Using this network, consultation is being provided to these inmates and only when one needs an advanced level treatment, he will be referred to the hospital. Currently, the hospitals are using broadband services to provide consultation to the inmates. Speaking to Express, secretary of central relief committee Dr R N Rajanaik said, “Using the broadband services, the inmates have already started seeking benefits of this new facility without travelling to the hospital. Specialists from Victoria and Bowring Hospital will consult the inmates."  The department of social welfare has also planned to come up with personal registry management system (PRMS) in all the 13 Beggars Colonies across the state.
