The victim has been identified as Raju Chary (48), a carpenter by profession, from Ranga Reddy district in Telangana.
A physically challenged man on Tuesday slashed his tongue in protest at the Telangana Secretariat after his repeated pleas for disability pension was not heard by government officials.
Police sources said Raju Chary, a 48-year-old carpenter from Ranga Reddy district, suffered only minor injuries.
"We don't know why he cuts his tongue. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and the injuries are superficial. We may book him under Section 309 of IPC (punishment for attempted suicide)," a police source said.
