Tearful adieu to Jawan who died in avalanche

KOZHIKODE: As the evening grew darker, thousands of people gathered at Kallunira Mini Stadium near Kallachi to pay their last respects to Shaiju, a jawan of the 628 EME Battalion of the Indian Army who died in the avalanche at Dawar in Jammu Kashmir on the night of February 23.The martyr’s body was brought to his home at Kallunira on Sunday by the Kannur Territorial Army members and was laid to rest with full military honours.The body of Shaiju, which reached his home town by 5pm in the evening, was received with a mourning procession which started from Kallachi. His mortal remains were kept at the Kallunira Mini stadium for more than an hour as the number of people who came to pay the dead solider their last respects grew larger. Minister for Agriculture K P Mohanan, paid tributes.
