New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has pulled up the state police over the slow pace of probe in the death of Arunachal student Nido Taniam. The High Court asked the police for the reason why it is taken over 15 days to get an autopsy report in a fast track case.
The HC on Tuesday had also pulled up the Delhi government in the case for not setting up forensic labs.
The police have been asked to file another report by Friday when the final post mortem report will be ready. It is evident that the court is unsatisfied with the status report filed in the case.
Meanwhile, both Minority Affairs Minister Ninong Ering and Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj have moved notices in Parliament for discussion on Nido's death case. Ering has also given a notice for the suspension of Question Hour in Parliament over the incident.
Taniam was beaten to death in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area in January end. He was mocked over his hair by some workers at a sweetshop and when he broke a window pane in retaliation, he was assaulted.
Taniam's initial post-mortem said that he died of swelling in his brain and collection of fluid in his lungs. His toxicology report is awaited.
The Home Ministry has formed a five-member committee to look into the concerns of the northeastern students in Delhi and given its approval for a magisterial probe into Taniam's death.
