Shanmugaiyah Pandian was arrested on Monday for reportedly instigating his community against the Dalits.
Ramanathapuram: Leader of a Thevar outfit Shanmugaiyah Pandian was arrested on Monday for reportedly instigating his community against the Dalits in Kadaladi area, police said. They said the speeches of Pandian, leader of Thevar Kuzham Kootamaippu, was such that it endangered peaceful existence of the two communities in this part of the state.
Police said they did not want to take chances as clashes between the two communities had already claimed seven lives this year during Thevar Jayanthi celebrations.
A top police official said a case had been registered against Pandian for violating prohibitory orders in the district and making inciting speeches that whipped up hatred between the two communities.
