KOCHI: Railways drive against people entering the platform and travelling under alcoholic influence, has found support in public. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will screen persons entering the railway platforms from Friday onwards.RPF is hoping that the way smoking in the public places has finally been banned, similarly, people will eventually avoid travelling under the influence of alcohol. “People will have to avoid drinking and travelling as RPF is entitles to take action based on the screening result, even without an official complain filed,” a RPF official said.Ernakulam North Railway Station manager K V Mathew said, “We are happy with RPF’s move as we have had cases of people being drunk and creating unwanted situations at the platforms. These people were mostly beggars but it affected other passengers.” A platform cleaner Swarna, “Many a times, we have seen people being drunk and wandering in and around the station for days. Once they gain consciousness, they are usually fined and sent home.”
