The Sub Regional Transport Officers will soon have a comfy working atmosphere with Motor Vehicles Department planning to provide air-conditioned rooms at Sub RT offices.
The sources in the department said that initially the facility will be introduced at the newly-opened Sub RT offices which would later be extended to all Sub RT offices in the state.
Earlier, air-conditioners were allotted only to the officers in the ranks of Regional Transport Officer and above.
According to officials, the tender was invited to install ACs in five Sub RT offices. “In the first stage the AC would be fitted at the offices in Angamaly, Kunnathur, Ranni, Chalakkudy and Tirurangadi. Later it will be extended to other Sub RT offices. The department has decided to develop the Sub RT offices into high-tech offices with advance equipment, and installing AC is part of the project. About Rs 2 lakh has been allotted for the initial expenditure of the project,” an official in the Motor Vehicles Department said.
Ernakulam Regional Transport Officer B J Antony said that there are proposals for the development activities in all the Sub RT offices.
“Even though I have no information about the AC in Sub RT offices, there are plans to upgrade all RT offices into high tech mode. The department wants to equip the Sub RT offices for decreasing the time consumed for issuing the licence, tax collection and vehicle registrations by the usage of advanced system in these offices. Besides the squad for active enforcement from the Sub RT offices are on the initial stage,” Antony said.
