BANGALORE: Harish Hande, winner of the 2011 Ramon Magasaysay Award, urged students to refrain from going abroad for studies as there were enough educational opportunities in India, at an interactive session with students of Dayananda Sagar Institutions. “Heading abroad for education is a wrong trend. Students have to utilise the resources available here to shape their future,” said Hande. Stressing on the ample opportunities here, he added, “Students have to help India grow by getting educated here.” Hande (43) received Magasaysay Award for his efforts to put solar power technology in the hands of the poor through his social enterprise Solar Electric Company (SELCO) India. He felt by using solar energy, the risks of global warming could be greatly reduced.
