New Delhi: Former IAS and social activist BD Sharma, who has been named as one of the interlocutors by the Maoists to negotiate in the abduction case of IAS officer and Sukma District Collector Alex Paul Menon, asked the government on Wednesday to stop all anti-Maoist operations.
Sharma said that the Maoists have asked him to convey to the government to stop Operation Greenhunt and combing operations and direct the security forces to stay back in their barracks.
"Southern Bastar unit of CPI (Maoist) sent me some papers on April 24. I have now received a call from Raipur also to mediate. I will be going to Chhattisgarh and then to Bastar tomorrow," said Sharma in New Delhi on Wednesday.
He added that the press release from the Maoists expressed concern about the health of Menon, who is an astham patient, and the April 25 deadline set for accepting the demands of the rebels for the release of the IAS officer would be extended automatically.
Menon, a 2006-batch IAS, was abducted on Saturday from Majhipara village in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district when he was holding a meeting as part of the government's special Gram Suraj Abhiyan.
A day later, the Maoists had set April 25 as deadline to fulfil their demands, which include immediate halt to all police action against them and release of eight fellow comrades, including two women.
