BANGALORE: While the residents in most of the wards complain about their civic issues, the citizens of Devarajeevanahalli Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike ward mainly complains about the D J Halli Police. The residents are furious, as the police have flooded a part of D J Halli Main Road by encroaching the footpaths. “The seized vehicles have become a big menace here. The drunkards use the space behind the vehicles to defecate. We are forced to bare with these,” alleged the residents of the ward. They further informed that repeated complaints to the police to shift the seized vehicles have fallen on deaf ears. Many who come to Anand theatre on D J Halli Main Road have turned the space behind the seized vehicles as their toilet. When City Express took up the issue with the area coporator Sampath Raj, he said, “On many occasions, I have written to the police to do something with the seized vehicles as they have turned to be a problem for the pedestrians here. I had also requested the then city police commissioner Shankar Bidari to allot two police outposts, one at Modi Road and the other one at Roshan Nagar.” Both demands of Sampath were not attended. But he said that he will take up the issue at the BBMP Council meeting. The ward also seem to be over-populated. Most of the footpaths are occupied by footpath vendors and shop-keepers.Many roads were dug in the ward which were restraining free movements of pedestrians and commuters. “The water board officials have dug the road as the water supplied to the area was contaminated. The officials have to speed up the work as this hinders the smooth flow of vehicles and creates trouble to all,” said Rafiq, Manager of Anand Theater. Mehrun Nisa, a resident of the area said, “Sewage water gets stagnated as the drainage system is not maintained well. They should take some steps as they gets blocked often and the jetting machines have to come to the rescue. ”On the roads being dug, the corporator said, “The road was dug as there were complaints of water contamination. The water board officials are yet to find the source of contamination. It will be closed at the earliest possible.”Rowdyism is another menace which is prevalent in this ward. The residents wanted an increase in police patrolling to manage the mischief. “Most of the residents in the ward work as daily wage labourers. They work over time and by the time they return home at midnight,.some rowdies harass them and rob of their hard earned money,” said the daily wage employees in the ward. The corporator further added that he has already submitted his proposal to get grants from the Palike for a major comprehensive development.
