TIRUPUR: A case has been registered against a woman on the charges of attempting to murder her step daughter by setting here afire near Avinashi recently. According to police, Muthulakshmi (15), daughter of Kumar, was residing with his father and stepmother Mohana at KN Palayam in Thekkaluri. As the mother of Muthulakshmi, a school dropout, went missing from home eight years ago, her father Kumar married Mohana few years ago. Muthulakshmi, who was working in a power loom unit, was admitted with burns to Pollachi GH.Meanwhile, the stepmother was angry over Muthulakshmi’s friendship with her cousin and warned the girl. In her complaint to the police, Muthulakshmi said that on March 14 a quarrel broke out between them during which the stepmother had set fire to her. However, Muthulakshmi escaped with burns on stomach and was admitted at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) by her relatives. Later she went to her aunt’s home in Pollachi. She was then admitted to the Pollachi hospital, where police found her.During investigation, Muthulakshmi told the police about the torture that she was suffering at the hands of her stepmother.
