HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has called upon Parliament members from the state to mount pressure on the railway ministry and the board for announcement of new projects and trains, adequate allocations for ongoing projects in the railway budget to be presented on March 14. He made this appeal at a meeting he convened here on Thursday to discuss proposals to be sent to the Centre for inclusion in the budget. With the Telugu Desam boycotting the meeting it turned out to be more or less a Congress affair. Of the 60 MPs from the state, only 16 turned up. The TDP alleged that the chief minister had woken up very late as the date of presentation of railway budget was not very far off. Its MP Nama Nageswara Rao said the chief minister had neither the vision nor the interest in securing good number of rail projects.
Kiran Kumar Reddy said railway minister Dinesh Trivedi would visit Hyderabad to discuss pending and new projects, and a comprehensive blueprint on the projects should be kept ready by that time. Gutta Sukhender Reddy and Madhu Yashki urged the chief minister to ensure that no injustice is done to the Telangana region. When YSR was chief minister, he had allocated the entire share of funding to KadapaKrishnapatnam line and neglected other regions, they said.K Bapi Raju, T Subbarami Reddy and M Srinivasulu Reddy said the government should allocate `2,000 crore every year to complete the pending projects. Terming opposition MPs' absence as unfortunate, Bapi Raju said MPs from southern states, irrespective of party affiliation, would fight for rail projects for their states, he said.
