HYDERABAD: Officials of the Prohibition and Excise department in a decoy operation, busted a spurious foreign liquor racket and arrested four persons on Thursday. 150 spurious foreign liquor bottles of nine different brands were seized.
Excise deputy commissioner, Hyderabad Division, MMA Faruqui said the gang was selling spurious liquor in name of brands like Royal Salute, Johny Walker Gold Label, Red Label and Double Black, Glenfiddich Whisky, Vapoleon French Brandy, Moet Chandon Champagne, Alexis Lichine Wine and Baron d' Arignac. The arrested persons are Surya Prakash Jaiswal, Narayan Vadwani, M Narayana Reddy and Ch Subash.On a tipoff about illegal activities of Jaiswal and his associates, a decoy operation was planned and a constable of the excise department started calling Jaiswal for bottles of foreign brand liquor. "Though Jaiswal initially refused to sell liquor, the constable repeatedly called him and finally he struck a deal for two bottles for `8,800. A similar deal was struck again and the constable ordered for 25 bottles when a trap was laid and Jaiswal was nabbed when he came to Somajiguda to deliver the stock," excise department officials said.
