South zone winners honoured

CHENNAI: The South Zone city-level winners of the Fifth annual ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition - 2010-11 were honoured  recently at the Russian Center of Science & Culture by the Tata Group. The winners were selected from a competitive bunch of students through 15 city level competitions conducted in four cities for English and 13 cities for Tamil. The English edition of the essay competition was held in Chennai, Coimbatore, Cochin and Trivandrum with 175 schools participating in it. The Tamil edition was held in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Vellore, Pondicherry, Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, Tirunelveli   Nagerkoil, Villupuram, Thiruvanamalai, Coimbatore and Salem with 425 participating schools.The award ceremony was held at The Russian Center of Science & Culture. P Aravindan, Vice-Chancellor, Dr MGR Educational & Research Institute was the chief guest for the evening. The theme for the 2010-11 edition of the essay competition was ‘Poverty reduction’.
