CHENNAI: Sakthi Mariamman Engineering College, Thandalam, celebrated its 11th Annual Day & Sports Day on its campus on Monday.K N Ramachandran, founder and chairman, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the innovative projects for the present crises in electricity. Dr K Vijaya Bhaskar Raju, Principal, read out the annual report. The chief guests for the event were Kanchi Paneer Selvam, chairman district panchayat and T K M Chinnaiyya, Minister for Animal Husbandry. Paneer Selvam claimed that the Tamil Nadu government had facilitated policies such that students could afford and take up technical education. He stressed that the time span for improvement exams after the Class 12 results had been shortened. Chinnaiyya in his speech said that he was overwhelmed to be present in the function. He said that the present government provided a number of facilities for dialyses and other treatment for animals in Tamil Nadu. He pointed out the various schemes announced by the Chief Minister for the improvement of sports in the state.N C Krishnan, chairman St Thomas Mount panchayat union, who was present at the function, appreciated the location of the college in Kanchi District as a historically famous place, quoting the visit of an ancient Chinese traveller, Hiuen Tsiang. He concluded his speech by wishing the college success in the coming years.
