CHENNAI: A two-day expo on birds made out of waste products by the students of Sevalaya school (located in suburban Chennai) was held at Russian Cultural Centre, recently. According to a release, the birds were made completely from waste materials like plastic bottles, packaging and paper, collected in and around the school premises.To motivate students' creativity, the school management organised the two-day exhibition and Charlotte Chapman, a community artist from the UK, and Andrews, drawing master at Sevalaya, worked with the children in the plastic bottle bird project.Chapman, who conceived the project, came to Sevalaya through Children’s Art Village, a registered arts charity. The vision of the Children’s Art Village is to help children connect with themselves and develop their creativity.In the two-day expo, Sevalaya students exhibited about 700 birds made out of waste and it attracted high-profile visitors including Vladimir Mariy, the director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Chennai.The organisers said such exhibitions would help students understand how to save earth from adversities of plastics.
