Kathmandu: A group of Nepalese journalists staged a demonstration in Saptari, demanding transfer of district police chief who allegedly assaulted a scribe during Yoga Guru Ramdev's visit to a temple.

The journalists from Saptari held candle-light demonstration yesterday, demanding immediate transfer of district police chief SP Diwesh Lohani.

According to the Saptari chapter of Federation of Nepal Journalists, Lohani allegedly assaulted a journalist and others when Ramdev was visiting Chhinnamasta temple on November 26.

The journalists said they were compelled to stage a series of demonstration as the government did not pay attention to the "blatant injustice" they had to suffer.

The journalists claimed that the government had shown no interest in fulfilling their demand though they had served a 48-hour ultimatum at the District Administration Office on Wednesday.

They called on all journalists not to attend any programme organised by Nepal Police, boycott all type of news related to them and not to attend any press meet, among others.
