The team will be headed by a high-ranking official of the Revenue Department.The decision comes in the wake of increasing complaints being registered by residents of flats against the builders, alleging that most of the builders hold apartment societies in their name even after the flats have been purchased, which is illegal.“We have received several complaints stating that the builders are illegally raising funds by misusing the name of the societies, and conducting illegal activities in the flats.Residents allege that with societies remaining in the name of the builders, they are being forced to contend with arbitrary rise in power and water bills, security deposits etc. “Every month, the builder increases the fees according to his whims and fancies and residents don’t have a voice,” District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said.This is not all. Last week, a complaint was raised by residents of Shwas Homes Private Limited stating that several of the homes in the apartment had been forcefully converted into hotels and lodges.“We have received written and oral complaints from quite a few owners stating that several homes are being converted into lodges without the knowledge of the residents. Usually, the owners of the flat are NRIs,” Pareeth added.According to the complaints raised by the owners, the homes which have been converted as lodges and hotels have also become a haven for illegal activities, including sex rackets.However, Sreeni Paremeswaran, builder of Shwas Private Homes Limited, has refuted these allegations. “We started running the offices based on the permits received from the Municipal secretary.
