PARADIP: The bail plea of Bapi Sarkhel, owner of the construction firm, engaged for building the controversial coastal road linking the Port Town with the proposed Posco steel plant site, was rejected by the Additional District Sessions Judge here on Wednesday. He had been arrested from Chhattisgarh in connection with the December 14 clash at Bose Callis Point that saw death of one person and injuries to 25 others. Police had registered two cases against Sarkhel after allegations surfaced that he fomented trouble at the site and used goons to attack anti-Posco villagers. The clashes erupted after hundreds of villagers did not allow workers to carry out the construction of a road in the region.ABHAY SAHU: At another hearing, the Junior Magistrate, First Class (Kujang), Alpana Swain, rejected the bail plea of anti-Posco leader Abhay Sahu. Sahu, president of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), had been arrested from Nuapokhari while he was returning to his village from Bhubaneswar on November 25.Altogether 10 cases had been slapped against Sahu during the last six months which included clash with police during construction of a coastal road and involvement in a dowry-related death.
