TIRUNELVELI: An 18-member team of Russian scientists from Atomstroy Export and top NPCIL officials visited the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) in order to speed up the commissioning of Reactor-1.Atomstroy Export is a Russian engineering company of the state-owned ‘Rosatom’ Corporation involved in constructing nuclear reactors abroad. It has constructed two VVER Reactors, each of 1000 MW at Koodankulam.As the work is going on a fast track, after a gap of around 6 months, to commission reactor-1, experts from other nuclear plants in the country have been roped in for work at the Koodankulam plant. The KKNPP workforce are also working overtime to commission the reactor at the earliest.In this scenario, an 18-member team of Russian scientists from Atomstroy Export, led by its president V Limarenko, visited the KKNPP on Wednesday.A KKNPP official said the Atomstroy Export team held discussions with Russian scientists and experts already working at the plant. “They came here to extend support for the early commissioning of reactor-1 and to speed up the work at Reactor-2. Tomorrow (Thursday) the Russian team will meet top NPCIL (Nuclear Power Corporation India Limited) officials at the plant,” he added.NPCIL Chairman and Managing Director SK Jain, Directors KC Purohit (projects), Preman Dhinaraj (Finance) and other top officials also visited KKNPP. S K Jain addressed the KKNPP workforce.
