KOTTAYAM: Dismissing all speculation regarding the rift within the party, the Kerala Congress(M) on Friday unanimously declared Joy Abraham as its nominee for the Rajya Sabha seat.The decision was taken at the party state executive held at the party headquarters in Kottayam, KC(M) chief and Finance Minister K M Mani told reporters here.“Earlier, as a state party we had Rajya Sabha representation. However, we did not have it for quite some time. It is a matter of pleasure that the gap has been filled. Joy Abraham will be the candidate of the UDF,” Mani said. Public Works Minister P J Joseph suggested Joy’s name and P C George supported it.Joy Abraham entered the Kerala Congress politics through its student and youth wings and became the party general secretary in 1997. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Poonjar constituency in 1991.
